Simon Smith to Become Race Department Columnist (Plus Interview)

Simon Smith has been known not just to be on track and behind the mic, he is also a writer and has dealt with press for FSR and GPO. Now he’s also turning his hand to editorial work. Starting new week, Smith will be writing a weekly column about sim racing in general. Rest assured, it will contain a lot of random twaddle!

There’s also  a nifty interview with Simon already posted here.

BackMarker Brigade Flirts With WC & Launches Driver Scheme…

bmb09b_02BackMarker Brigade is in the final stagesof preparation for an assault on the World Championship, team boss Simon Smith stated earlier today. It’s unclear as to if and when the team will join WC but he stated its a real possibility.

“It’s something that I’ve been working on for some time” said Smith who’s distinctive team is currently represented in three of the four World Series. “This year has been phenominal and if the opportunity is still available for a WC entry I’d like to grab it with both hands.”

BackMarker Brigade launched in 2008 with just team boss Simon Smith and has quickly expanded. Jamie Rush joined team boss Smith in ADV, Jordon Alligood joined for PRO with memorableguest races from Dave Carr Smith (including the shock victory) and Alex Cooper represents the team for AMA. Alex will be joined by a newcomer, Maurice Zondag, for the Nurburgring.

bmb09b_03“It’s great to be part of a team now and we all get along really well. We work closely with Williamson Dynamics and that has helped spur us on for our quest for qualification! What’s more is that I’m currently developing an incentive for my drivers called “Points for Pounds” which I aim to begin shortly. It’s something that will keep drivers focused and reward them for all the hard work they do for which I’m very grateful.”

So what of the WC campaign? What are the aims and are they ready to go?

“I’m ready, the funding is in place and the motorhome has been expanded to facilitate all the after parties we’ll be having. There’s even an on site Indian restraunt to cater for our needs! The only thing we are yet to really get into is drivers. We’ve had initial talks with a couple and in general they’ve been positive but our only requirement is that they turn up and try their best. We’ve been on the back row everywhere else, why not prop it up in WC too?”

There was just one thing that was everyones lips at the announcement: will the colour scheme remain the same?

“Of course – the purple and yellow banana’s are here to stay!”
