Smith Smashes Silverstone (and Donnington) The Wrong Way!

GRCS9

Simon Smith had an unusually topsy turvy latest two rounds to GRC Season 9 resulting in three of the four races, him being upside down!

Silverstone got off to a shaky start after qualifying 17th but in avoiding all the lap 1 and 2 drama’s Smith suddenly found himself battling at the front of the field, coming home a shocked and delighted 5th! Smith then qualified fifth for the feature race and was running there until lap 2 when he was hit by an out of control Alain Cottini and rolled over his Volvo! Smith rejoined at the back of the back and desperately clawed his way up the order only to misjudge an overtaking move on Tim Spurr and half spin his BMB which in turn collected… you guessed it Alain Cottini! After all that Smith laid 26th and put in the career race of his life to ascend to a fantastic 9th after a missed opportunity for a potential podium.

Donnington however was Smith’s lowest point of season 9. The sprint race saw Smith qualify midpack but gain a rocket start up the field to 7th before spinning off on the opening lap and getting beached in the grass. After climbing back into the points down in 17th Smith then made a mistake on the second last lap and beached himself in gravel this time and ended up a pointless 23rd! Race 2 saw Smith qualify 5th again but at the same corner but this time lap 2, Smith was pincered by two cars and speared off into the abyss again. Simon, bit between his teeth climbed upto what was at the time 12th but with several ahead yet to pit but then caught a curb and over she went again – into the barriers upside down! With a broken car, Smith desperately tried to limp to snail home and just about scraped a 17th. With Paul Huggett absent at Donnington and only collecting a few points at Silverstone, it had been a trying few meetings for BackMarker Brigade.

Smith Shocks with First Top 5 in GRC!

GRCS9

Simon Smith shocked everyone when he came home in a stonking 5th in GRC’s Season 9 sprint race at Toban Raceway on Monday! Infact the server was so shocked he was in 3rd place for most of the race, it went into meltdown while he was running 6th in the feature race and stopped the evenings events early!

Smith ran 3rd for most of the sprint race embroiled in a frantic battle with Jorge Ampudia until the final lap when Smith lost out and then suffered a puncture at the very last corner and dropped to 5th. Things were going equally well as Smith rose to 6th in the feature race before the server crashed. Paul Huggett too enjoyed points with an 18th in the feature race.

“It was fantastic to battle for the podium and it was shame to see it slip out of my grasp but grabbing my first top 5 in the main league was still a fantastic achievement and a personal highlight for me.”

This now places Smith an amazing 9th overall in the division 2 league with Paul Huggett moving to 26th. BackMarker Brigade are 8th in the constructors.

Smith Pulls A Top 10 in Topsy Turvy St. Petersburg at GRC

GRCS9

Simon Smith pulled a 9th place out of the hat from what had been a difficult round 2 for BackMarker Brigade at GRC’s Season 9 at the street circuit of St. Petersburg.

In Division 1 Scott Juliano was removed in an incident on lap 5 which smashed his car to pieces in the sprint race. To make matters worse he was unable to start the feature race at all and thus slips to 20th in the standings.

Division 2 saw Paul Huggett running in the points before he crashed in the sprint race while Simon Smith suffered a disconnection while too in the points, although he’d be classified 20th, gaining a point. The feature race however went much more to plan with Smith and Huggett avoiding the lap 1 carnage to rise up the order. Smith battled with Tim Spurr, Marco Vandenbroeck and Alain Cottini before having to settle for 9th after a lengthy pitstop. Paul Huggett ran at the tail of the feild reliably to pick up a valuable 15th! This moves Smith and Huggett to 12th and 24th respecitvely.

Troyton Raceway is where the cars will be back in anger, and will be broadcast live on PSRTV from 8.15pm Monday BST.

Smith & Huggy Score in GRC Season 9 Div 2 Opener

GRCS9

Simon Smith and Paul Huggett both scored points in the season 9 opener of GRC’s Touring car league. Simon Smith grabbed two 14th place finishes while Paul Huggett grabbed an 18th and a 20th! It’s the first time in BackMarker Brigade history all BMB drivers have scored in both races in a GRC season opener!

The drivers were saddled in the unfancied Volvo which lacked the grunt needed for the Mosport circuit as the car is better on twisty circuits and so Smith was praised for keeping up with the main group in the sprint race and the feature until when he came into the pits, he found another driver sitting in his gridslot and Smith lost over 20 seconds waiting to then stop. This dropped him down the order where an accident on the last lap left him 14th. Huggett had swapped over from the Ford at the last possible moment and drove well to grab points in both rounds.

“That is possibly our least strong track out the way so now we really can go full speed ahead hopefully” said teamboss Smith. Gary Gray and Ryan Walker should join the pairing from rounds 2 and 3 respectively.

Juliano Capitalises in GRC Season 9 Opener

GRCS9

Scott Juliano made hay while the sun shone in his BackMarker Brigade debut in the main GRC Touring Car championship entering its 9th season. Scott, driving the unfavoured Volvo around Mosport for the opening rounds, put in mature and speedy drives to takes 13th in the Sprint race and 11th in the Feature after spending all of the feature race in the middle of a massive 5 car train! The Volvo was expected to struggle on the high speed circuit and with that out the way, Scott is now primed to break into the top 10 next time out. Divison 2 run this monday!
